[User form] | [Instructions for server access] | [Available services] | [Useful local links] | [Security note] | [F.A.Q.] |
Available in PDF format (updated 6/2/2006).
Create an email account, using the following data, as well as the username and password you requested:
Protocol: | IMAP + SSL |
Incoming mail server: | imap.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt |
Outgoing mail server: | smtp.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt |
(last resort alternative): | omni.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt |
IMPORTANT: Activate the "SSL" option for the incoming mail server settings for this account! In some email clients you may need to specify the port, which is the 993. Moreover, "SSL" is optional for the outgoing server (non-SSL port: 25, SSL port: 465).
If you use SSL for the outgoing server, you also have to enable authentication. This way you can also send mails, even from outside ISR. To do that, make sure SSL is activated for the outgoing server. Note that the port is 465, rather than 25.
An alternative way of accessing you email account is via web, through this URL: http://webmail.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt
You need a SSH capable software for login and file transfer (telnet and ftp protocols are NOT supported, for security reasons). NOTE: the IST has a campus license for the SSH Shell software, for Windows, which can be found here: http://ftp.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/isr/ssh/ (restricted access to ISR network).
Further information regarding ISR computing resources can be found in these wiki pages: Media Wiki and old wiki pages
When you create an email account, for instance in Mozilla or Outlook Express™, at a certain point of the process you'll be asked whether you want a POP or a IMAP account. Then, you'll have to choose IMAP. Don't forget to select the SSL (port 993) option for incoming mail only. Typically this is done after the creation, in some "properties" or "preferences" option of the account.
First of all, omni only supports the SSH protocol, both for login and file transfer. However, you can FTP to outside omni, using the ftp UNIX command. A list of SSH clients can be found here. IST has a campus license for the SSH Shell software, for Windows, which can be found here: http://ftp.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/isr/ssh/ (access restricted to ISR network).
No. Several SSH clients allow similar functionality, for instance, SSH Shell software, for Windows, allows you do drag and drop files to/from a remote directory at omni.
To change the UNIX account password, login and run the passwd command. To change the email account password, login at the webmail, click the “Options” link followed by the “Change Cyrus Password”.
